Do Native Animals Make Good Pets?

In Australia, we are fortunate enough to have an amazing array of animals that are found no where else on earth. Whilst many of these animal are shy, or reclusive, equally as many make brilliant pets, and with a little research any one of any age, is sure to find a native companion that suits them just as well as any cat or dog. In fact, owning native animals as pets isn't quite as rare as people may believe, both the budgie and cockatiel are in fact native to Australia. over seas sugar gliders, bearded dragons, cockatoos and a whole host of Aussie native are now wildly kept as pets and loved my millions.
So what are the advantages of keeping native animals as pets. Well besides being some of the most unique pets imaginable, keeping native animals as pets is actually good for the environment! While cats will actively hunt the native animals living in your back yard, owning wildlife has almost no environmental impact. There another reason keeping native animals as pets is good for the environment. when we love something as a pet, we want to protect and look after it, and the more people that own these animals, the more people that will come into contact and learn to appreciate these amazing species.
Also, while an average dog costs hundreds of dollars to purchase and look after, most native animals are relatively cheap to buy, and cost almost nothing to look after. Reptiles for example, need feeding anywhere between 3 times a week to once a fortnight (depending on the species) which is far more economical than a cat or a dog.
Many of these animals also make great pets for people who have limited space, apartments for example lack the room for a dog to run, but a cocky cage or reptile tank takes up only a small amount of space, and can even be an attractive feature to a room!
These few points are only a few amongst a host reasons why native animals make such great pets! So for more information contact us via email or stick around for our future posts such as care sheets, articles and products for sale!
